First, the part many roundups still get wrong: Hubdoc is gone. Xero retired it on May 8, 2026 — existing documents were migrated to storage-only Xero Files, and auto-fetch, OCR, and publishing rules were switched off. Pages still quoting Hubdoc at $12/mo predate the retirement. So "alternative" here means: where do you actually move the job Hubdoc did.

Sorted Receipts is built for exactly this — each client gets one upload link (no account, no app), files auto-sort by month, vendor, and type, gaps from recurring vendors get chased with reminders under your name, and month-end exports a CSV plus renamed originals for QBO, Xero, Desktop, or folders. Flat $29/mo up to 30 clients, $59 to 100, $99 unlimited — documents never metered. The honest limit: header-level extraction only (date, vendor, amount, type), no line items. Dext is the most capable extraction suite: line items on higher tiers, supplier rules, firm dashboards, WhatsApp/email/app submission. Business plans run ~$25/mo billed annually (250 documents, 5 users); practice plans are per client and climb quickly. Practitioner complaints are consistent: fidgety tier pricing, a heavy interface, OCR that still needs review. AutoEntry (Sage) is pay-per-credit — roughly $13 to $469 packs, 1 credit per receipt, 3 per statement page — fine at low, stable volume, unpredictable the moment a client has a messy month. Datamolino is the quiet third option here: volume-based pricing with unlimited users and client folders, strong on bills and line items, popular with Xero/QBO firms that process invoices in bulk. None of the three collects from clients or chases.
You actually needed expense management
If "receipts" meant your own team's expenses — cards, reimbursements, approvals — Hubdoc was never the right tool and neither are we. Flat vs per-client vs metered is the whole game at practice scale.
